Turmeric Latte in a cafe and from the supermarket

The first time I ever tasted turmeric latte was several years ago in a cafe. It was an interesting and intriguing discovery. Obviously, I had been using turmeric as a spice in my cooking for a long time before that, but I never thought I could make a drink with it. Some time later I came across a spice mix to make your own latte at home in a health food store and decided to give it a go. The first impression of the mix was positive but I felt it could be much better. So, I asked myself…

How to compose your own Turmeric Latte Powder?

Of course, I took the challenge to compose my own 5-element Turmeric Latte Powder and tested it on several people. Well, the beginning was not easy because the ready mixture turned out to be tastier. But after two trials, the third time my recipe came out much better and more balanced.

So, now I am proudly presenting it to you. Try it yourself and, if you have the opportunity, compare it with a ready mixture or other recipes. I guarantee huge satisfaction! The 5-element Turmeric Latte Powder is really balanced but feel free to experiment and add some spices of your choice.

Utensils

For this particular recipe, use kitchen scales as you need to know precisely how much of each spice you are adding.

The procedure

In a medium-sized bowl mix all the ingredients in the following order:

  • Bitter – turmeric (50%),
  • Sweet – cinnamon (25%),
  • Pungent – ginger (15%), freshly grated nutmeg (5%), freshly ground cardamom (3%), chilli cayenne (~1%),
  • Salty – salt (~1%),
  • Sour – citric acid (~0,5%).

Mix all the ingredients well and transfer into a jar. Use 1-2 teaspoons for a cup of oat or almond drink, or any other plant milk of your choice. If you prefer, you can have it with regular cow’s or goat’s milk.

Serve it hot to get the warming up effect. As a cold version it goes well with some ice cubes on top. Try it with 5-element Japanese Cheesecake.
