The best oats come with spiced yoghurt and wild strawberries
Overnight oats are a great variation for summer breakfast or a snack but they usually come out a bit bland and boring. It is because there is not enough flavour added. Some really brave recipes suggest adding salt, which is great but still not enough. To fix this, set yourself free and add all the 5 flavours! Oats with spiced yoghurt will make you amazed!
Oats with spiced yoghurt – an instant snack
Also, the oats do not need to be prepared the night before. You can make them spontaneously for breakfast or as a healthy snack any time you want. Of course, the flavour and consistency will be different. Another thing is that you can save yourself work and make more of the sauce to keep it for at least 2 days.
To make the spiced yoghurt
In a medium-sized mixing bowl add the following:
- Sour 4-5 tablespoons of yoghurt, 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice,
- Bitter a pinch of turmeric,
- Sweet 2 teaspoons of sugar or honey, a pinch of cinnamon, a few drops of vanilla extract (optional),
- Pungent a pinch of ginger, a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper, a pinch of freshly ground cardamom (optional),
- Salty a pinch of fine salt.
Mix all the ingredients well. Make sure the sugar and salt dissolve. If possible leave for 10-15 minutes for the flavours to blend.
The amounts will make one serving.
Add 4-5 tablespoons of your favourite oars, cereal or muesli to a serving cup or bowl. Pour the sauce on top and add wild strawberries or any other seasonal fruit of your choice.
The spiced yoghurt can also be used to top a fruit salad or to go with sponge cake or as a dip for pannukakku – Finnish oven pancake.
