Blend your own Mango Lassi or Mango Smoothie
Mango Lassi, very often can be found by the name Mango Smoothie or Mango Milkshake, is a sweet variation of traditional Indian yoghurt drink. It is silky smooth and very refreshing.
What to have it with
Lassi is perfect for warm days. It has cooling properties and is surprisingly filling. The mango lassi, or smoothie, below can even substitute breakfast or lunch. To make it all sweet, I recommend it with Japanese Souffle Pancakes or Japanese Cheesecake. However, traditionally it is served with with all sorts of Indian korma or curry dishes.
A mango a day…
Although 5-element Cooking Theory says we should avoid foods which are not local (I am talking form the point of view of somebody who lives in Europe) I think one mango now and then will do us good. Mangoes are a great source of antioxidants, vitamin E, B6, zinc and calcium. They have alkalising, cleansing and cooling properties. What is more, you can make countless dishes with mangoes, like mango chutneys, salsas or puddings.
The procedure
The amounts below make 2 big cups of the drink.
Use a blender cup and add the following ingredients:
- Sweet 1 mango, peeled and roughly cut into pieces, 1 teaspoon of honey,
- Pungent a pinch of freshly ground cardamom, a pinch of hot curry powder,
- Salty a pinch of sea salt,
- Sour 250 ml (about a cup) of plain yoghurt (greek yoghurt, if available, will make it extra thick and creamy),
- Bitter a generous pinch of turmeric, blend the ingredients and add:
- Sweet 1/2 to 1 cup of oat milk (or any other kind of plant milk or organic cow’s milk), depending how thick the drink is and what your preferences are.
Blend all the ingredients until smooth. Garnish with some lemon balm leaves. To make it even more refreshing add an ice cube. Serve immediately.
