Simply Baked Apples – always good!
Simply Baked Apples are always good. When the weather is not inviting you out. When you need some comfort food. When there is nothing sweet to eat in your pantry. When you want to make your friends and family happy. Any time!
Simply Baked Apples – super simple!
Traditionally the recipe did not require spicing or any additions, however, I decided to add some to make it a 5-element one and to balance the flavours. Also, as a topping I used vanilla ice cream only to avoid overwhelming the flavour of the apples but feel free to experiment. Preparation
To serve two people you will need 2 baking apples. Sour apples are best but feel free to experiment. The next main ingredient is your favourite vanilla ice cream.
Preheat the oven to 180℃.
Wash and dry your apples. Cut them through 1/3 off of the top. Scoop out the core leaving a small well inside.
Sprinkle the inside of the apples with the following spices:
- Bitter a pinch of turmeric,
- Sweet a pinch of sugar,
- Pungent a pinch of ginger,
- Salty a pinch of salt.
Put the cut off top parts back on the bottom parts and place your apples in baking dish. Bake in the oven for about 40 minutes checking them regularly. The apples need to be baked through so that the inside is soft and tender. Allow some more time if necessary.
When the baking is done get the apples out, put them in serving plates, take the top parts off and place a scoop of ice cream on them. Let the ice cream drip over the apples a little bit and serve immediately.
Serve garnished with some cinnamon (optional).
